What Is Microblading?
Microblading involves scratching the epidermal layers of the skin, just deep enough for the coloured pigment to sit superficially, creating fuller eyebrows which are semi-permanent. The natural-looking results are achieved using a handheld microblade, drawing individual hairs where they’re missing from the brows. This creates a fuller look and lasts for up to 18 months, after which your clients can come in for a microblading touch-up. While it’s a procedure which leaves both waterproof and smudgeproof brows, immediate aftercare is important to enhance colour and for the longevity of the brows.
The Best Microblading Brows Aftercare Instructions
Good aftercare advice for your clients is essential, not only to leave great results but also to avoid scarring and discolouring the pigment during the first few days and weeks after microblading.
Here are some of the best aftercare instructions for your clients.
An aftercare balm (sachets supplied in your training kits when enrolling on our courses), can be applied to the dry eyebrows. A layer of this may also prevent foreign particles from entering the area and causing an infection. However, those with oily skin may not need to use a healing balm at all.
Keeping the area dry
Immediately after the treatment (and for about 7-14 days), it’s important to avoid getting the brow areas wet, as water can absorb the pigment and expand wounds, leading to a reduction in colour, increased scabbing, and uneven results. If eyebrows do get wet (including excess lymph fluid immediately following treatment), dab them dry with a clean, lint-free tissue.
The only exception to this rule is cleansing the brows twice a day with sterilized water and a very gentle antibacterial soap. However, the eyebrows should be kept as dry as possible after, using a clean cotton pad or Q-tip. Only apply the aftercare healing balm to completely dry brows.
Be extra careful if applying make-up or moisturizers to the face, avoiding the microblading area. If there was ever a better excuse to ditch exercise, avoid any physical activity which causes excessive sweating and heavy perspiration.
Picking, rubbing or scratching at any scabbing can cause removal of the pigment and even lead to scarring. Touching the microblading sites will also increase the risk of infection. Some peeling is normal as the site repairs itself, but avoid touching the brows even if they’re itchy. Just let this skin peel away itself.
Week 2 & Onwards
After the first 7 days, normal regimes can be resumed, but clients should introduce things back to their routine slowly as everyone heals differently. It may take a few weeks (around 4-6) to re-implement your full routine while healing fully. Gentle washing is recommended and small amounts of aftercare balm can be used on dry brows. Avoid harsh exfoliation, chemical peels, and creams or moisturizers containing strong chemicals such as retinol or glycolic acid. Popular natural oils to use include microblading aftercare coconut oil and grape seed oil.
